We are seeking an Intern R&D Undergraduate Summer to perform computational and theoretical work on a summer project\\. Potential projects include:
+ Simulation, design, and analysis of high energy power flow diagnostics used on Z experiments
+ Development of computational plasma physics tools to analyze inertial confinement fusion experiments and simulations
+ Simulation and analysis of magnetically driven fusion targets and implosion systems including comparison to experimental data
+ Development of machine learning techniques and tools for complex hydrodynamic simulations
+ Development of simulated diagnostics of inertial confinement fusion targets to better compare simulation codes to experimental data
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \\(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\\) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\\.0/4\\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\\.S\\. citizenship
+ Working towards an undergraduate degree in physics or a closely related engineering field

+ Proficiency in computer programming and/or scripting languages such as Python
+ Experience with plasma simulation codes
+ Completed coursework in plasma physics
+ Desire to pursue graduate studies in a technical field
The ICF Target Design Department \\(1684\\) pursues theoretical and simulation based analyses and assessments of inertial confinement fusion \\(ICF\\), stockpile stewardship relevant, and other high energy density physics experiments on a variety of platforms, including the Z Facility and the National Ignition Facility \\(NIF\\)\\. The department's core competency lies in the design and analysis of high energy density experiments, with a particular focus on ICF and radiation hydrodynamics experiments\\. They rely on complex, integrated, multiphysics simulation tools, with a particular focus on the magnetohydrodynamics of high energy density plasmas, and on spectroscopic diagnosis of high energy density plasmas\\. In carrying out their mission, department 1644 collaborates closely with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory \\(LLNL\\), Los Alamos National Laboratory \\(LANL\\), and the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment \\(AWE\\)\\.
